Getting Through a "thing"

Louise & Company Designs1 Comment

This year I’ve struggled through the holiday season to do the simplest tasks such as put-up Christmas Decoration or the Tree. I’m not sure what it is that I’m going through; nor am I sure that I care to investigate the “Why”. I only know that I’m going through it!

When I was younger; I must have been 10 years old or so; I remember that my Grandmother did not want to put up the Christmas Decorations or Tree that year. I couldn’t for the life of me understand why she suddenly would not place the most important yearly traditions in practice. I asked if I could put them up and was granted access to the storage place in the basement where I proceeded to drag every box up the stairs, unbox Christmas and place each and every decor where it was in its place the previous year. I then proceeded to make new (homemade) ornaments and hung them all over the tree. Midway into my rhythm of decorating & blasting Holiday Music loudly (of course followed by my off tuned choirs), my Grandmother joined me. Before the night was up, we went into a baking frenzy together, laughing & singing our way into the wee hours of the night.

I cannot fathom what she was going through at that time; nor if explained to me, that I would I understand. The holiday seasons sometimes brings out the melancholy out of most of us: the loss of loved ones (parents, children, friends). The challenges of daily life and struggles of our worlds (past, present & future). The heaviness of just going through a thing can affect one’s soul.

The years that followed it was my job to initiate our Christmas Decorating Ceremonies and we made it a thing to do it together. Years later, when I was in the military, stationed overseas, I would receive a box of Christmas Cookies & pictures from my Grandmother of the tree she put up and all of the decorations (handmade ornaments still intact - every year). I believe she was telling me in picture format that she got through the “thing” that she was experiencing and was on the other side of it victoriously.

I believe going through something (not going around it; not getting over it; but going through it) affects our souls to the point of an eternal mark (even when we become immortal)! I take the experience that Jesus went through here on earth affected Him in such a way, that His Immortal Body actually bore the scares from His experience that He went through while here on earth.

In my observance, going through a thing also provides you with power and weapons that you otherwise may not obtain when working around a thing or simply getting over it. I believe Jesus stated and demonstrated the scares of going through the crucifixion but was all powerful as a result. Simply put, it takes grit and determination (in His case the sacrifice of His very earthly life) to get through a thing!

My “thing”, not being as impactfully and without equal measurement; but, however, using Him as the ultimate example of getting through a “thing”, I shall get through this “thing” that I’m currently experiencing. There’s power on the other side, there’s strength & there’s a weapon (with ammo) that I will need for my next season. I may incur scares in my soul along the way - some that I can share with you to encourage you to get through your own “things” that you are experiencing.

Just know this as a promise: you will get through VICTORIOUSLY —

2022 promises to be quite a different year for us all - we will get through it together and gain power & strength on the other end that no man nor demon can take away from you! Stay strong, be encourage and mindful that you will get through!

Have a Blessed Holiday Season and Happy New Year!

Life is NOT like a Pocket Square - Nov 2021

Men’s Pocket Square Royal Blue & Black/White Stripes (by L&C Menswear)

It's been a while ~ But I'm still here:)

Yup, you read correctly - it’s been years since my last BLOG!

I wasn’t idle, I wasn’t avoiding it (well not consciously anyway - lol); was I busy? oh MAN Yea! Building my businesses & trying to stay balance has high demands. Sometimes high demands take from the creative soul and you end up seemingly, on the outside, as frozen or lost. Transparently, I share with you that this may have been the cause of my plight; then again; who really can tell what the root cause to this one - lol:)

I find that in a world of “experts”'; to which I am subjected to their opinions, either on social media or otherwise; that there is never really ONE (1) reason for something. We can expand a life lesson into multiple reasons of “WHY” and “What should have happened”; then based on our beliefs make declarations on “What will NEVER happen again”; but as I grow older, I find most of this final analysis to be limited in use. By no means am I saying we should not evaluate our lives; yes we should; but lately, I have found myself in an ocean of evaluations which eventually leads me to a frozen or lost state of mind.

If only our lives could be neatly folded into the shape of our purpose, crisply tucked into the pockets of our outer designs and displayed to the world as an accessory that brings a pop of color & personality to all those that view us hahaha lol.

That is NOT my situation - lol - in any given day of observance to my daily happenings, you will encounter a frenzy, crazed looking, energy that will either repel you into another orbit far from me or draw you into mine as if you were a comit circling my planet - lol.

No, my friend, life is NOT Like a Pocket Square: we do not have crisp corners, most of us have not been properly molded to fit our purpose (we’ve had to journey through it) and yet we are placed uniquely and wonderfully in the place where you are! What a miracle of our lives/journeys that God has placed in us!!??!!

I believe that each of you that are reading this can testify that you NEVER thought that you would end up in the situations to where you are currently in - and yet - what a wonder - here you are!

These past several months (almost 1 1/2 years) of dealing with the Pandemic, I have valued LIFE so much more than I had in the past. I neatly tucked all of my insecurities away, I was able to iron out all my painful moments and allow God to smooth my soul out in crisp corners of positive purpose. He reminded me of my purpose and empowered me for the present day as well as the future. No, life is NOT Like a Pocket Square; but never the less, I am here!

L & C Pocket Square for Men - Couture Designed - Hand Crafted $8.00

YES OR NO?

I'm often asked as a Stylist my opinion on Pocket Squares regarding Fashion for men.  My answer is always slant to "YES"!  Whether you are just wearing a dress/causal shirt, a causal jacket or formal attire, the style that men adapt speaks loudly of his character, personality and dedication to excellence.  A man that wears pocket squares will be noticed 1st above all others in any interview, photo opt, or simply walking down the street.

Now today, there are thousands of different styles of Pocket Squares from card to scarf; so it's really up to the gentleman which one works best per individual.  Of Course, L & C sells handcrafted, couture designer Pocket Squares of any variety; contact us direct (via our website or phone) and provide color & event - we will do the rest --

INSPIRATION:

I was inspired to design L & C from observing my Grandfather who was a young, Italian, man in the 1920's, that had adapted his own style of expression by randomly surprising us with new accessories.  I would sit silently and watch him prepare his appearance in the hallway mirror, as he selected a piece of fabric or handkerchief (whether it matched or not - patterns or colors) and placed it haphazardly into the upper left-hand pocket of every shirt or jacket.  My delight as a child artisan was animated for a lifetime, and as I watched the reactions from others (both male & female), I came to the ultimate conclusion that "YES" it matters what you wear and how you wear it. Little did he know that his eccentric granddaughter would later develop a couture business and name an entire line of fashion for men after him; proving the point further, that what you do, what you wear and how you perform in simple things; like a wearing Pocket Square; may inspire someone that will impact others!

All this from a Pocket Square you ask?  Am i saying that something as small as a piece of 12" x 12" fabric can affect your next minute or future life - LOL - well, yes; I know that is a bit dramatic, isn't it?  But if you trace your situations of success today, back to the actions that fueled them, you will find a small gesture that pivoted your life to the next level every time!

Making small changes today will largely impact your world tomorrow - I know after reading this you will think on small accessories as the giant in the fashion industry today and i hope that you will move toward them when deciding what to wear on your next outfit!

RESEARCH:

Here is the history of the Pocket Square that was taken from Google Search: https://www.samhober.com/pocketsquarehistory.htm/pocketsquarehistory.htm

Here are some different ways to wear Pocket Squares from one of my favorite instructional films on Fashion for Men (note: he doesn't like card squares but you form your own opinion on what you prefer what is best): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbKHkC_GQUA

FEEDBACK:

Enjoy & leave a comment to your favorite memory of when you felt the most confident in life - what were you wearing?
