In this class, you will learn the following:

• Part 1 –

  • Learn different sizes of zippers (example: #10 jacket zippers verses #5 invisible dress zippers)

  • Learn zipper pieces (teeth, tape, stoppers) zipper tape patterns and what they mean

  • Learn to install two different types of zipper installations (Standard & Invisible zippers) using two different zipper presser feet

• Part 2 –

  • Hard Project - Dog Walking Bag 1 yard of outer fabric & 1 yard of lining fabric (Choose medium weight cottons); two (2) 7" zippers - Instructor will bring purse hardware

  • Medium Project - Zippered Pencil Case 1 fat quarter of outer fabric & 1 fat quarter for lining fabric; One (1) 7" zipper

  • Easy Project - Travel Coin Bag with zipper closure 1 fat quarter of outer fabric & 1 fat quarter for lining fabric; One (1) 5" zipper

Specific Material List: 

• Sewing Machine (including any tools that come with your machine)

• Sewing Machine Manual (if you do not have a printed-out copy, please be prepared to bring a downloaded version)

• Thread

• Bobbins for your Machine (note: always check the package of bobbins when purchasing to ensure that your sewing machine model appears for usage)

• Standard Zipper Pressor Foot and an Invisible Zipper Pressor Foot

• Machine Needles per your machine; both single & double needles (note: always check the package of needles when purchasing to ensure that your sewing machine model appears for usage)

• Sewing Machine Toolbox –(Note: all can are available at The Sewing Station Learning Center Online Boutique or NWSC):

  • Hand Stitch Needles

  • Scissors for cutting fabric

  • Snippers for cutting threads

  • Seam ripper

  • Tape measure and/or ruler

  • Straight Pins (25)

• Fabrics -

  • For Part 1: Any scrap fabric will do for stitching the sample zippers

  • For Part 2: here is what to bring per project -
